A room with no direct sun rules out most of the plants sold as easy. Light is food, and a north-facing bedroom in November does not serve much of it.
Six plants tolerate genuinely low light: snake plant, ZZ plant, pothos, cast iron plant, peace lily and Chinese evergreen. Tolerate is the right word. They will survive, grow slowly and keep their colour.
To get past surviving you need to add light. A full-spectrum grow light running eight to twelve hours a day is enough for most foliage plants, and modern ones are warm enough that a living room does not look like a laboratory.
Put the light within about eighteen inches of the leaves. Beyond that the intensity drops off sharply and the plant reaches towards it, which is how you end up with a long bare stem and three leaves at the top.
